Warm Homes: Local Grant Scheme
August 2025

I wanted to take this opportunity to make you aware of the Warm Homes:Local Grant scheme which is now open for applications to residents of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

Letters have been landing at various properties across the borough over the last few days, so I wanted to ensure that all parish councils are provided with the necessary reassurance around the legitimacy of this grant.

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk has been working as part of the Norfolk Warm Homes consortium since 2022 to facilitate the implementation of domestic energy efficiency grants across the borough. These grants typically accommodate the replacement of central heating with air source heating, insulation measures and solar PV where appropriate.

Previous grants have included LAD & HUG, however these have now both been replaced by the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG) which is now open for applications.

Any interested or concerned residents are advised to contact myself through either Jacob.Medlock@West-Norfolk.gov.uk or on 01553 616227 for details. Alternatively, households that wish to make an application should visit the following link - Norfolk Warm Homes

BOOST West Norfolk July 25

BOOST West Norfolk is a UKSPF project delivered in partnership between Norfolk County Council and Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. The current project is operating alongside the BOOST Breckland project, with both due to end on 31 March 2026.

The project is aimed at young people aged 16 – 30 who are living in West Norfolk and are currently unemployed and not in education. The project is centred around raising aspirations, building confidence and highlighting the range of career opportunities across West Norfolk. The project has a number of outputs and outcomes to measure success, and these range from the number of young people we are able to support to gain employment, improving employability through increased interpersonal skills, taking part in education and achieving a qualification.

We have a range of activities scheduled over the next few months –

17th July  – BOOST Your Work Readiness, bite size sessions on the following –

CVs explained and improved

Interview skills, tips and techniques

30th July – Bike Maintenance – this session is about supporting independent travel, not only do they take part in a training session to understand bike maintenance, but the young person is given a bike, helmet and lock.

7th August – BOOST Your Work Readiness, bite size sessions on the following –

Planning for being work ready

Resilience and Breaking down barriers to success

18th, 19th & 21st August – Introduction to Office based roles

16th – 18th September – ELEVATE – this programme is preparation for The King’s Trust TEAMS programme, aimed at young people further away from employment and working with a specialist training provider.

23rd – 25th September – Beauty Skills and Careers

7th – 9th October – Retail Masterclass

21st – 23rd October – Pathways to Nature (at Watatunga)

Please do come back to me if you have any questions at all. BOOST is a fantastic project, and we are looking to get the word out into all the communities so we can reach as many young people as possible who can benefit from the provision.

Regards

Claire

Transport East Report June 2025

We are pleased to announce that Transport East's Travel Behaviour Survey Report for Norfolk has now been published.

You can find the full report attached, and on our website: https://www.transporteast.gov.uk/travel-survey/norfolk/

This comprehensive document offers invaluable insights into how residents across Norfolk travel, their reasons for transport choices, and the barriers they face in adopting more sustainable methods. The findings can play a critical role in guiding transport planning and policy development across the area.

The regional Travel Behaviour Report, published in January, is also available and provides a broader view of travel patterns and behaviours across the East. Click here to view the report.

Following a formal statutory process, I am writing to let you know that we’re reducing the speed limit on the A47 between Peterborough to Pullover Roundabout in King’s Lynn at the following sections:

Section 1 – A47 Welland Road roundabout to Oversley Lodge roundabout will change from the National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph

Section 2 – Thorney New Cut roundabout to Thorney Toll will change from the National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph

Section 3 – Thorney Toll village will change from National Speed Limit of 60mph to 40mph

Section 4 – Thorney Toll to Guyhirn will change from the National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph

Section 5 – Guyhirn to Wisbech will change from the National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph

Section 6 – Shoreboat Roundabout to Pullover roundabout will change from the National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph

These speed management changes are based on collision and risk assessment data. This scheme aims to improve safety for all road users by reducing the number of people harmed on this route.

Work includes the installation of speed limit signage and twenty new variable speed cameras to enforce the new speed limits.

We are not responsible for the enforcement of speed limits, that responsibility lies with the relevant police force.

We are planning to start work on Monday 24 February 2025. This will last approximately 10 months. We will work between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.
